Jennifer began her work as a doula in late 2004 when she began volunteering at the DC Developing Families Center in Washington DC, a program that offers free labor support to underserved women in the District. Working with Certified Nurse Midwives at Washington Hospital Center she provided women and families labor and breastfeeding support. During this time she also began attending births in Maryland, Virginia and DC for private clients, in hospitals, homes and Birth Centers. Jennifer has had the unique opportunity of being mentored by homebirth CNM’s and Traditional Midwives. This experience allowed her the opportunity to understand birth as a normal physiologic process. An invaluable education that allows her to incorporate that understanding into every birth she attends, regardless of the location.
In 2008 she moved from the Washington, DC area to Colorado and resumed her practice with Front Range Doula, LLC serving families along Northern Colorado’s Front Range. In 2012 Jennifer attended the Birthing From Within Advanced Mentor Training with Virginia Bobro and Pam England. She is excited to bring these new skills to her childbirth preparation class. Jennifer offers comprehensive support during the childbearing year, throughout pregnancy, labor, and during the tender postpartum period. She is an Advanced Mentor for Birthing From Within, Advanced Lactation Consultant and Certified Lactation Counselor, Certified Doula, Licensed Massage Therapist.
Jennifer holds a BS in Maternal and Child Health and Board Certification as a Lactation Consultant. In her free time she enjoys reading about anthropology, nutrition, peaceful parenting and of course anything birth related. She is an occasional gardener, kitchen chemist, and chicken farmer. She is the mother of three amazing children, the ultimate spiritual teachers, who inspire her every endeavor.
This blog is a place to share the things that touch Jennifer as a mother, a doula, and a citizen of humanity. Welcome, and please feel free to comment or get in touch by phone or email.
